Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment,  said the scheme had devised a means of detecting erring volunteers. He therefore gave the erring volunteers 45 days to change their attitude to remain on the programme while emphasizing that N-power is not a political campaign promise of All Progressives Congress (APC) and as such, it is not politicised.  Imoukhuede said at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja on Tuesday that the programme was one which had received the endorsement of every state governor irrespective of party affiliation. The National Social Investment Office (NSIO) says any of its programmes’ forms requesting information about an applicant’s  permanent voter card (PVC) is fraudulent. This is coming after the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) alleged that there is a plan to involve beneficiaries of the federal government’s N-Power scheme in the forthcoming elections. In a statement on Sunday, Maryam Uwais, special adviser to the president on social investment, said none of its progammes makes use of the form in question. “Any Form that requests for information relating to political affiliation, PVC of applicants in the name of any of NSIO programmes or prescribes payment of application fees is either fraudulent or mischievous and should be ignored. Such Form(s) could only have been issued by fraudsters or mischief-makers who are intent on discrediting the Social Investment Programmes, which are obviously benefitting the masses,” the statement read. ...

The Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, says youths in the state have benefitted immensely from the N-Power scheme. She spoke at a sensitisation programme organised by the ministry at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, on Friday. She said, “N-Power is targeted at engaging unemployed youths nationwide and we are delighted that Lagos State has benefitted a lot from the programme because it has extremely engaged our youths. “The scheme has exposed them to modern techniques in teaching, health care and agriculture which make up the three main focus areas of the programme.”

Having witnessed how similar programmes were run by previous administrations, it becomes easy to compare and contrast. When the idea of N-Power was muted, it was no surprise that many people had misgivings about it.
